Scholarship Information

Dougherty Foundation scholarships are awarded by board action upon the recommendation of school financial aid officers at the accredited colleges and universities at which the Foundaion has established an allotment of funds. Awards are based on financial need and academic achievement. Students must be U.S. citizens and residents of Arizona.

Dougherty applications are available at participating schools.

Community College Scholarship Guidelines

Students that meet eligibility criteria and are enrolled at a participating community college are eligible for up to $1,000 in scholarship funds each academic year. Awards are based on the number of credit hours taken per semester.

Eligibility status for the scholarship program for community college students is limited to $2,000 regardless of the number of semesters the student attends any community college. Community college students continuing on at the university level are encouraged to apply for the Dougherty Scholarship and Loan program at participating schools. Awards are not transferable between participating schools. Students must re-apply if they transfer to another participating school to complete their degree.

University Scholarship Guidelines

Students at the university level are awarded a maximum of $2,000 per year. Funds are divided equally between scholarship and loan awards and are dispersed in two equal semester awards. Undergraduate scholarship funds are limited to $4,000. Fifth year undergraduate students may apply for a loan only award of $2,000 per academic year. Scholarship funds are not available for graduate students. Students who have already obtained a bachelor degree, regardless of field, are not eligible for scholarship funds. These students may apply for the Dougherty Foundation Loan Program for work toward a graduate level degree. All applications must be submitted to the financial aid office of the attending school. The Dougherty Foundation does not accept applications directly from students.

Students must show:

  1. Financial need, as determined by Federal guidleines (FAFSA)
  2. Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or better
  3. U.S. Citizenship (resident aliens are not eligible)
  4. Arizona resident
  5. Full time student status
(community college students must be enrolled at a min. of six credit hours)
  6. Students must be seeking an associates degree or higher.

Scholarships may be renewed if students continue to show financial need and maintain academic achievement. A progress review will be done each semester to verify completion of credit hours and cumulative G.P.A.
