Thank you for the generous scholarship from the Dougherty Foundation. I am pleased to accept it. This award will help me carry on my studies and is helpful in many different ways. I am grateful now that I will be able to use these monies to further my studies and not need to worry about the cost of books and supplies. Thank you again and bless you all!

I just want to take a moment to thank you for your generous scholarship gift of $1,000 awarded through Chandler-Gilbert Community College. When I received notification that I was awarded this scholarship, it was very heartwarming and exciting because this is the first scholarship I have ever received! As you may recall from my essay, I am nearing the end of my Associates Degree, and so far I have funded my entire education on my own. I used to think only smart people could get scholarships. Then I thought it was for both smart people and lucky people. I guess that since I am pulling down a 3.87 GPA and have been awarded this scholarship, I can finally consider myself one of "those people". However, today I have realized that it's not only about the applicant "winning" a scholarship as if it's a prize for a contest. It's about the character and generosity of the donor. To loan a friend or family member money is one thing, but to give a complete stranger $1,000 in these hard economic times, shows a lot about your personal character and your belief in the community. Colonel and Bess Dougherty must have been wonderful people to have started such a great program. As I approach my 45th birthday, I applaud your continued support of students, no matter what their age. Thank you very much for placing your faith in me. I won't disappoint you.

The Dougherty Foundation has been so generous and supportive of me, more than they will ever know.  As an older student, acknowledgement that my future is monumental, drives me toward success.  As a recipient of their scholarship and as a graduate of LeaderShape I can never be grateful enough! They enabled me to get a taste of the leadership platform and because of the Dougherty Foundation’s support, I am adding Leadership as a specialty in my curriculum.  Since my spectacular week with LeaderShape, I have taken a credit class called Emerging Leaders, and now that I am transferring to University I have involved myself in a three year Leadership program there that will include more credit classes on the subject.  I have done a ton of independent reading as well.  Gratitude is such a small word for what I have been gifted.

I am honored to be a recipient of the Dougherty Foundation Scholarship. I thank you for your generous support of this award and for helping Glendale Community College students with financial need afford college. This is my sophomore year at GCC, where I plan to pursuing an Associate in Science Degree. I know the education I will receive at Glendale Community College will be a solid building block towards my transferring to Arizona State University. My parents have always stress the importance of education and the value of a college degree. I hope one day to share these same lessons with high school students and to help prepare them for success in college. Once again, I want to thank you for making this scholarship possible and for your generosity toward the GCC students. I hope to represent the Dougherty Foundation Scholarship in a positive manner and give back to my community as you have.

My course of study remains Veterinary Science. My future goals include graduating from The University of Arizona in Spring 2010. I needed financial assistance because my course load is always heavy (14+ credits) which leaves little time to work and spend with my son. I have been consistently employed at a local animal hospital for eight years, however with the constraints of school, homework and studying I am only able to work about 10 hours a week. This combined with other financial assistance does not create enough income for me to pay rent, school, books and other student expenses. I successfully completed the last semester and even made honorable mention on the Dean's List. I take my education very seriously and I will not give up on my dreams of becoming a veterinarian. The Dougherty Foundation Scholarship has helped me get closer to my dream and I am very grateful.

I have been chosen to receive the Dougherty Foundation Scholarship, and I just want to thank you so profoundly. I have been attending Glendale Community College since the summer before my junior year of high school through the ACE Plus program and I will hopefully be graduating from GCC after the spring semester. I am studying to become a social worker for Child Protective Services and later to be a counselor in a high school helping troubled teens. My passion has always been to help others and I cannot wait to complete my schooling in order to get started!

I come from a very goal oriented little family. By little I mean that my family consists of my mom, my aunt and myself. I was raised by my single mother and since she is disabled, help with my schooling has had to come from scholarships or financial aid. A scholarship at this point is a blessing to help relieve some financial burden and help me to focus more on my goals then on having to work overtime in order to make ends meet to pay for textbooks. I appreciate what you are doing for me and I want you to know that I will be making my best effort to exceed your expectations. Thank you so very much once again.

We live in a world that needs leaders, now more than ever.  To face the many challenges in the coming years, our world needs individuals who can develop bold visions for the future and take action to bring those visions to reality.  I can think of no better way to prepare people for this challenge than the LeaderShape Institute.  Thanks to the LeaderShape Institute I learned more about who I am and how I can change the world than I ever thought possible.  I learned how to respect and work with a diverse group of people in many situations.  I also learned how much fun it can be to stretch and grow as a person.  This amazing program would not have been possible if not for the generous support from the Dougherty Foundation.  Their contribution allowed myself and a large group of other students to participate in a life-changing and world-changing experience, the effects of which will continue to ripple outward for a long time.  For the sake of those currently in need and the bright future I know we can create, I hope that LeaderShape, with the help of the Dougherty Foundation, will continue to grow and change lives for many years to come.

LeaderShape was a great experience! I feel that I was able to take away from the whole experience a sense of purpose and renewed motivation to help me move ever forward towards my career goals. I learned skills that will help me be a better person and employee. Thank you for the opportunity to enrich my life through the LeaderShape program.
